Idea #10

Recycling

It has always been said 'the polluter should pay' but unlike the present arrangements I would have a recycling Tax on everything that needs to be recycled and cannot be recycled at a profit.

I would have the Recycling Tax go to a nationalised company "UK Recycling Ltd". Whose job it is to recycle everything that can or should be recycled. I would have the company research for new ways/techniques to recycle our waste, some of which, hopefully, can be patented.

One immediate benefit of having a national company tackle this task is it shall take away the job from Local Authority responsibility, maybe even reduce our Council Tax a tiny bit.

How much better would it be to have the capability of ringing an 0800 telephone number to have all our recyclable waste collected free of any charge. Cars, Fridge's, Freezers etc. This should reduce the need for dumpimg. Our weekly recyclable waste would still be collected, but by a national company who can plan properly on a national scale what to do with our waste.

A recent innovation I have read about is that a factory in the North of England is being built to recycle plastic bottles into building materials. Why are not more of these factories being built?

Another innovation I have read is that most of our waste going into landfill could be burnt with the by-product being Electricity and this could be done relatively cheaply. Why is this not being pursued urgently? We could be leading the world in not filling our land with our waste.

Re-cycling needs a national approach leaving the task to individual Local Authorities is not the best solution. That is a fact!
